The Namiki Chinkin Pen Collection is made up of fountain pens which use "Chinkin (Gold Inlay)", a lacquer-ware technique that Japan boasts is on par with Maki-e. Motifs are carved into the lacquered surface with special chisels, then lacquer is inlaid into the grooves, and strategically placed gold leaves and gold powder gives the pattern expression. Since Chinkin is a carving technique, there is no room for mistakes, and every single carve is a true challenge in the sense of the word.
