Sailor 1911 Large Maki-e Fountain Pen - Dragonfly

The Sailor 1911 Large fountain pen, also known as the 1911 Full-Size in some markets, is Sailor's flagship model, which features an elegantly tapered design and the amazingly smooth-writing 21k nibs for which Sailor is renowned. The dragonflies on this Sailor Maki-e fountain pen flit around the cap and barrel, and a hint of the wetland is shown underneath with gold lines. Sailor has emulated this in the 1911 Large Maki-e Dragonfly fountain pen, with a 21k gold nib.

Gold dust, sprinkles of gold flake, as well as tiny pieces of abalone, make up the wings and body of the dragonfly. The delicacy of the lines and shapes create the impression of movement. The Sailor Maki-e fountain pen is the same size and has the same converter/cartridge filling mechanism as the 1911L. It comes in a small softwood box with a proprietary Sailor piston converter for use with bottled ink, two extra cartridges and all paperwork.

Beautiful Maki-e Work! April 24, 2016
Reviewer: Marcus from San Jose, Ca United States
I've been collecting Maki-e pens for over ten years, and this Dragonfly Maki-e by Sailor is really very very nicely done.  I love the attention to detail in the abalone chips in the dragonfly's wings, as well as the level of shading in the gold work.  To find them on sale at Anderson Pens was a bonus.  I'm going to come back for the Butterfly and Deer next!
